Margaret Cho & So Much Mo

Last night we saw Margaret Cho and Ian Harvie at the Dodge Theater here in Phoenix. The show was everything we expected and so much more!

Ian opened the show. It took a while for the crowd to warm up to him. I think the turning point was when he was talking about how he came out to his parents twice, once about liking girls, and the second time about liking girls and wanting to be a man. The crowd was silent. He said, "That's pretty much the same reaction that they had." Everyone laughed, and he had them from there. His act included a lot of Trans issues, like getting top surgery to achieve his "sexy flat chest." He had the audience in stitches.

Margaret took the stage with a huge welcome from the audience. I believe that this was by far her best material. Raunchy, crude, and funny as fuck. She only gets better with time. "G Shots*," anal bleaching, bears, twinks, her new VH1 show "The Cho Show," and the list goes on and on.

If you get the chance to see the show, you must! She was fucking fantastic!

Kiss My Grits Dinah Shore

Here's a weekend that costs way too much for the average homo and after last year, I'm not interested in going anytime soon. The events were overpriced (cocktails not included) and a little too on the mainstream side of entertainment for me. Anyway, unless you like being wanded and frisked in a long line for a pool party, you may want to stay away too.

Now I have heard a few friends' stories of pretty interesting hook-ups and all about the sexy nakie view at past Dinahs so I can see the appeal. But mind you, I'm in a couple with the sexiest motherfucker on the planet so I didn't go looking for that type of situation. Still with that said, I was intrigued to see what happens when queers converge on Palm Springs.

From what I've skimmed from the internets there are about 10,000 to 20,000+ that show up. Oh yeah and fyi, that's a lot of people to be behind while waiting to get into an event, or to get a drink, or to go to the bathroom.

Anyway, with costs for pool parties from $25 on up and cabana packages for two up at $400, it's definitely not my scene. I hate paying a cover at the local club, yes I whine over a $5 cover! So $25 for a pool party is way out of the question. I did it once in 2007 and it was ok, I mean we stood in the water, chatted with our friends, and checked all of the gays. And I guess it was alright but this didn't include the night parties that range from $70 for one party to $200+ for a weekend entertainment pass.

I'm curious to see how successful this one was considering the economic market. Who has money for this kind of thing when homes are being foreclosed upon and jobs are lost everyday thanks to our fucking idiot of a President? Who knows, maybe people need the escape. Not us. We can find a pool party here in Phoenix for free, I'm sure of it. And luckily we know a lot of queers too. Gives me an idea for my next birthday party;)
